SDD with LaTeX?

I’ve never used LaTeX before. I am trying to improve my process for writing Software Design Definitions (SDD) so my team doesn’t have to manage and merge Word documents. I’m looking into developing our SDD using LaTeX with a Git repository for change management.

Has anyone else done an SDD with LaTeX?
Do you have any advice for a humble nube?

Essentially we need to follow the specification linked below. It’s too much to read so basically it needs to have sections with automatically-numbered headers, a title page, change log, table of contents, a table of diagram contents, and inlined diagrams from draw.io and plantUML.

Software Design Definition (SDD) specification…

  • DiD: http://everyspec.com/DATA-ITEM-DESC-DIDs/DI-IPSC/DI-IPSC-81435A_3747

  • Example: https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/grants/249557.pdf

I see there are ways to inline the diagrams...

Draw.io diagrams…

  • Importing diagram from draw.io into LaTeX

PlantUML diagrams…

  • Can I use the plantUML language in LaTeX?

Beyond that, I’m just starting to wade in.
