Can I use OpenCL to directly write to FrameBuffer, bypassing X11/Wayland completly?

I am thinking about replacing X11/Wayland completely and create my own display server.
Now for this I will directly write to frame buffer, and use hardware acceleration using OpenCL.[I know I will have to rewrite font coder, to video coder to audio decoders, and I am ready for it]
Now before I start all this and waste my efforts, can I know are there any similar projects ?
If not do you think this is possible and a good idea to use OpenCL for this purpose?

Now why I am doing this: I wanted to create an Aug.Reality based OS environment. Which will have voice and eye trackers as a replacement for Keyboard and Mouse. Along with an integrated AI assistance.
Or short and simple, as a hobby I am doing this.

I know I will get many negative marks for this, but there is not enough material to conclude on this.

  • What you want is OpenGL, or better yet Vulkan, not OpenCL. OpenCL is just data processing, it doesn't do rendering, which is what you want. OpenGL is all about rendering, and Vulkan does both (and will likely do a better job integrating with whatever VR tech you choose to use).

  • @AustinHemmelgarn OpenGL cannot work without X11. There are some cards which do support it but not all platform support it that way.
