Unable to reply to other users using write command

I am trying to reply to a message sent by other user in the Ubuntu termnial.



I have 2 users sudhir & chethu. User chethu is logged into system normally & user sudhir logged in via putty.



We get error message for command write chethu at sudhir terminal:



write: chethu has messages disabled.



At the chethu terminal I have run the following command:



mesg y
