What have you looked at so far? Colloquy has a preference dialog where audio can be turned off or on. Please add screenshots of your Alerts preferences if you don't seem anything related to audio/sounds there.

Does this FAQ help? It looks like you can use Preferences -> Alerts -> Mute all notification sounds.
To access Preferences press Cmd-, or select them from the Colloque menu (like in any other Mac application).

ah yes I forgot that on Mac OSX the bar at the top changes depending on which application is active! So the application's menu is at the top of the screen outside of the application's window!!
