Using Android FOTA system on general Linux systems

The Android FOTA API is really great imo, even though I really dislike almost everything else about Android. Here's why it's great:

  • built-in authentication and integrity checks

  • inter-OS communication and logging through dedicated partition is simple but elegant

  • super general due to the fact that the ota package can be any arbitrary executable

  • incremental upgrades possible

  • implementing most of the upgrade logic in initramfs rather than bootloader

  • allows A/B updating for not only rootfs, but other partitions as well

  • dedicated user partition outside the jurisdiction of FOTA (by default anyway)

But none of this is in any way closely tied to Android itself. So my question is: Are there any FOTA systems implemented for general Linux (with U-Boot) that are similar in spirit to Android FOTA, possibly even re-using components from Android?
