htlatex replacing fi and ffi with NUL in HTML

I'm seeing the same problem as described at htlatex converting all occurences of 'ff' and 'fi' to null characters in HTML output in that fi
and fii
characters in standard text are replaced with NUL
in the HTML output. I think I have the same fixes applied as per the first answer but I can't get clean HTML.
Any pointers to what I'm doing wrong would be much appreciated. Thanks.
My source .tex file is:
documentclass{article}
begin{document}
This is my Official test
How to find the answer\
The end
end{document}
My .cfg file myconfig.cfg
is:
Preamble{xhtml}
begin{document}
EndPreamble
The pdf output using pdflatex test.tex
is fine
The htlatex command I'm using is as follows and I have no .sty file defined:
htlatex test "myconfig, charset=utf-8" " -utf8 -cunihtf" "" -shell-escape
The setup is:
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.19 (MiKTeX 2.9.6840 64-bit) (preloaded format=latex 2018.10.24) 21 NOV 2018 10:58
The html body section I get is:
<body>
<!--l. 4--><p class="noindent" >This is my ONULcial test<br class="newline" />How to NULnd the answer<br class="newline" >The end</p>
I've tried lots of combinations of NoFonts
, -css
, etc. but nothing prevents the NUL
characters.

Could you try to replace-cunihtf
with-cmozhtf
? Or trymake4ht -u -s -c myconfig.cfg test.tex
, which is equivalent to yourhtlatex
call.

Looks ok on my miktex. Run the htlatex on the command line and copy the terminal output, then I can compare.

A reinstallation of tex4ht using the latest package from the MiKTeX Console, without any other changes to the source file, seemed to do the trick and it's now all working. Thanks for your support.

Could you try to replace-cunihtf
with-cmozhtf
? Or trymake4ht -u -s -c myconfig.cfg test.tex
, which is equivalent to yourhtlatex
call.

Looks ok on my miktex. Run the htlatex on the command line and copy the terminal output, then I can compare.
