地下茎の一例


地下茎（ちかけい）とは、地中に埋もれる性質を持つ茎のこと。基本構造は、地上茎と同じである。同じく、地中にある根とは、葉を付けること、根冠や根毛がないことなどにより区別できるが、根と並んで植物体の固着の役割も果たす。


地下茎の分枝はシダでは二叉分枝または二叉状仮軸分枝の場合が多い。被子植物では単軸的に成長するものもあるが、アマドコロのように主茎の先が直立の地上茎となり、地中の腋芽（えきが）から次の地下茎がのび、仮軸分枝を繰り返して成長する方が普通である。また、シダ植物や被子植物の多年生草本は地上部が枯れても地下茎は生き残るので植物体の維持にも重要な役割を果たす。


そして多くの場合分枝して、もとの共通の茎が死ぬと、枝は別の独立した個体になるので、栄養繁殖にも深い関わりがあるとされる。


地下茎は地面からすぐ下にある場合が多いが、スギナやハスなどのように、かなり深く地中を横走することもあり、これらの場合、通気腔が発達している。



地下茎の分類


地下茎はその形状から、横にはうものを「根茎（英語: rhizome）」、塊状または球状のものを「塊茎（英語: tuber）」、「球茎（英語: corm）」、鱗片葉がつくものを「鱗茎（英語: bulb）」などという。


シダ類のワラビやウラジロの地下茎は地中を長くはい、枝分かれし、典型的な根茎であるが、斜上したり、短く直立する根茎もある。



  • 塊茎は茎が肥大して栄養分を貯蔵する役目を果たす。


  • ジャガイモでは側枝がのびて先端が肥大して塊茎になるが、サトイモでは側枝はすぐ塊茎になるので、親イモに子イモがつく。

  • 鱗茎は栄養分を貯蔵して肥厚した葉が密生した茎であって、タマネギ、ユリ、スイセンなどがよく知られた例であるが、地下茎そのものは小さくなっている。

  • 塊茎や鱗茎が茎の変形であることは芽を備えていることから判る物である。

  • 地中を長く這う横走茎も地下茎の一つであり、栄養繁殖を行うための特別の器官である。
    • 例えば、川岸近くに群生するクサソテツは、直立茎から盛んに横走茎を出し、先端が直立になって、地上部が出る。

なお、園芸でいう球根は地下茎のほかに塊根や担根体も含まれる。

Can't connect RFCOMM socket: Host is down
